X-Pandotite

  1. How do I use X-Pandotite?

  2. X-Pandotite is a dry powder and must be mixed with clean water at about a four parts powder to one part water ratio before using. A consistency similar to heavy paste is appropriate for troweling: thin slightly for pouring. Thoroughly clean out and WET THE SURFACES OF THE SPACE TO BE FILLED. The water you add to X-Pandotite is very important to the eventual set up of the product, and care should be taken to prevent the loss of this water through absorption by porous surfaces. Positive expansion takes place only when porous surfaces are saturated with water or sealed with paint or shellac.

    Apply X-Pandotite and allow to harden. Pack or pour the mixture deeply into the space where applied. In order for the expansion to be fully effective, the product must have a surface to expand against.

  3. Does X-Pandotite set up quickly?

  4. X-Pandotite is not a quick setting cement. Allow to set hard before exposing to water. Under normal temperature and atmospheric conditions, the material will set up in 24 hours.

  5. Can I hasten the set up time?

  6. Evaporation of water is the main factor, so making the mixture as thick as possible will hasten set up time. If a faster set up time is desired, X-Pandotite may be force dried by using heat lamps, infrared bulbs, heat guns, or torches. However, DO NOT HEAT ABOVE 200°F. Higher heat may create steam and possibly fracture the X-Pandotite.

  7. How do I use X-Pandotite in freezing temperatures?

  8. The water content in the mixture of X-Pandotite creates a problem in winter's freezing temperatures. You must protect the material from freezing - the methods mentioned above for hastening set up time would be helpful.

  9. What is the "pot life" or workability time of X-Pandotite?

  10. Depending on your own personal preference on the water to powder mixing ratio, a batch should be workable for 1 ½ to 2 hours. The material hardens as the water evaporates; therefore, the thinner or more liquid the solution, the longer the working life of the mix. A thinner mix will not alter the expansion or hardening qualities of X-Pandotite, but it will take longer to set up. Do NOT add water to an existing mix - rather, make up a new batch.

  11. What is the shelf life of X-Pandotite?

  12. If you follow the directions on our containers and KEEP THE COVERS OF THE CONTAINERS CLOSED TIGHTLY and avoid exposing the material to moisture, the material will last indefinitely.

  13. Can I use X-Pandotite on unanodized aluminum?

  14. Yes, you can, but be aware that the X-Pandotite material will cause the aluminum to discolor. If this is not an issue in your application, the product will perform as usual.

  15. Is X-Pandotite non-toxic?

  16. YES!!! X-Pandotite does not contain any lead, asbestos, teflon, or harmful carcinogens.

  17. Can X-Pandotite be colored?

  18. Yes! After mixing with water, any desired shade can be matched by adding dry powder colors. After hardening, the material can be painted or will take a penetrating stain.

  19. Can X-Pandotite be drilled or ground?

  20. Yes! X-Pandotite, after hardening fully, can be drilled and tapped or ground and polished.

  21. How is X-Pandotite used for terrazzo?

  22. Add dry colors to the mix of X-Pandotite to match the desired shade. Pour or trowel the X-Pandotite into the space. Insert matching marble chips before the X-Pandotite sets hard. Leave the chips slightly higher than the surface. When hard, stone and polish.

  23. Are there any special instructions for using X-Pandotite to as a crack filler?

  24. X-Pandotite will permanently fill cracks in tile, terrazzo, marble, wood, metal, concrete, or plaster. When patching cracks in plaster or wood, shellac or size the bottom and sides of the cracks before inserting X-Pandotite. Shellac the completed job before painting or papering.

  25. What are some of the specific industrial uses for X-Pandotite?

    • An electronics manufacturer uses it for encapsulating and sealing assemblies.
    • A button manufacturer casts ornamental buttons with it - makes perfect molds!
    • Electrical companies use it to anchor wires in insulators.
    • A razor manufacturer uses it to cement the handles on razors.
    • An electrical manufacturer uses it to anchor heat units in receptacles.
    • Theatres reset theatre seats with it.
    • Cemeteries use it to repair headstones.

  26. What are some of the wooden items X-Pandotite can be used to repair?

  27. Handles of brooms, tools, umbrellas, kitchen utensils, loose rungs in chairs or ladders, and all other types of enclosed wood joints may be reset permanently with X-Pandotite.
